1970 is unquestionably a great vintage of Château Latour. A mild winter and spring, followed by a hot summer with the ripening of the berries from July 25, and a wet month of August produced very ripe, good quality grapes. Very powerful, the wine develops an exceptional nose of dark chocolate and spices. Very marked tannins on the palate and a fresh finish come to close this unique tasting. Château Latour 1970 is a great classic.

One of the top two or three wines of the vintage (Petrus and Trotanoy are noteworthy rivals), this young, magnificent Latour is still 5-10 years away from full maturity. The opaque garnet color is followed by a huge, emerging nose of black fruits, truffles, walnuts, and subtle tobacco/Graves-like scents. Full-bodied, fabulously concentrated and intense, with a sweet inner-core of fruit (a rarity in most 1970 Medocs), and high but well-integrated tannin, this enormously endowed, massive Latour should hit its prime by the end of the century and last for 2-3 decades thereafter. This is will be the longest-lived and potentially most classic wine of the vintage. Cream always comes to the top.

Very deep crimson. A very big-boned wine of great density. Some very strong menthol character with a touch of liquorice too and pretty dry on the finish. This seems to have taken on flesh since its rather austere youth and was even rather charming - in a distinctly 'masculine' way. No hurry to drink this.

Château Latour

Château Latour is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces wines under the Pauillac appellation. Premier Cru Classé in the Official Classification of Bordeaux wines created in 1855. It is undoubtedly a reference in the Médoc.

Created around 1680, the Château Latour vineyard is one of the oldest in the Médoc. At the heart of the estate, the main plot, named "l'Enclos", consists of 47 hectares of old vines that are preciously maintained, as they are the only ones capable of giving birth to the "Grand Vin". The 18 hectares of external plots, the vines less than 10 years old, and any declassified cuvées produce the estate's second wine, "Les Forts de Latour". Château Latour wine is an example of consistency regardless of the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth...

Latour is the very example of excellence, in both good and bad years. Among the greatest vintages, the château's finest achievements: 1920, 1929, 1949, 1955, 1959, 1961, 1970, 1982, 1990, 2000.
