1985 is a great vintage in Bordeaux red and in the Pauillac appellation. This excellence is confirmed at Château Latour with a well-balanced Premier Grand Cru Classé. On the nose, notes of vanilla, caramel and red fruits. On the palate, Château Latour 1985 is elegant and concentrated. A great wine that can be drunk or kept for several years because it has great aging potential.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
I’ve gone with the 1985 as it is fully tertiary in character but still majestic, and truly at a wonderful moment to drink, rippling with creamy raspberry and blackberry fruits, with the lingering memories of toast, soft leather and mint leaf providing a mouthwatering finish.

Strong ruby garnet, delicately under-ochred, broader water rim. On the nose fine plum note, fine bitter chocolate, fine nuances of eucalyptus, delicately of caramel. On the palate juicy sweetness, chocolatey touch, powerful tannins, fresh acid structure, adheres well, present tannins, powerful body, has depth, delicate cherry jam, delicately of caramel, sweet berry fruit in the finish, a very vital wine, from which a good drinking animation emanates and which will give pleasure for many years.

Rich and ripe wine. Dark red color with an amber edge. Loads of meat, berry and tobacco character on the nose. Very rich. Full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, ultraripe fruit finish. Still very fresh and young.Latour vertical.

A open-knit expresssive savoury nose. Quite open on the palate with rich coffee infused fruits. Approaching maturity. More enjoyable than 86. But not as intense as Lafite or Haut-Brion. Drinking now.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Cassis, baked red fruits, tobacco and earthy scents opened to a medium bodied wine that ends in a light, red and black fruit finish. The wine started off with a tart side and with time in the glass began to improve. Still, it’s a disappointment for Chateau Latour and the vintage.

From Latour's English period. Very dark crimson still and marked by the easy sweetness of the year. Only with time in the glass did it lose a bit of focus and become a bit leathery with a hint of rusty nails, suggesting this wine is now at its peak. It reminded some of Grenache.

Château Latour
Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most emblematic estates of the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in Bordeaux wine history. Its name appears as early as the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity still profoundly marks the vineyard's identity. From the 18th century onwards, Château Latour wines have been recognized for their consistency and aging potential, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé during the official 1855 classification, Château Latour occupies a central place at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is based on a particularly homogeneous terroir of deep gravels, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth and great regularity of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is distinguished by a dense tannic architecture and demanding construction, favoring precision and longevity rather than immediate seduction. Iconic vintages such as Château Latour 1945, Château Latour 1961, Château Latour 1990, Château Latour 1996, Château Latour 2000 or Château Latour 2009 illustrate the estate's capacity to consistently express the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
