CHÂTEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2004

The winter was rainy and the spring cold, followed by the dry and hot months of June and July. The month of August was milder and the month of September quite beautiful. As a result, the maturation was slower, which pushed back the date of the harvest to the end of September. You had to be patient to wait for the perfect maturity of the berries.
On the nose, this Premier Cru Classé is discreet and opens gently. Château Lafite Rothschild 2004 presents slightly candied fruity notes. On the palate, an ample start, then evolution towards a generous, opulent balance with great elegance. The finish is very long, suave and silky.

Expert's opinions

(6-2007) This beautiful, stunningly dense purple-colored effort (includes about 90% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers up precise notes of graphite, black cherries, cassis, scorched earth, and minerals. Medium to full-bodied with fabulous fruit, impressive richness, refreshing acidity, and sweet tannin, this beauty should be approachable in 4-5 years, and last for three decades. As Lafite Rothschilds go, this is somewhat of a sleeper vintage.

(3-2007) Intense aromas of currant, coffee, toasty oak and sweet tobacco follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins, great mouthfeel and a long finish. A refined Lafite.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favoring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
