CARRUADES DE LAFITE 2008

The viticultural season was placed under surveillance due to a cold winter and a few frosts in the spring. Indeed, the flowering was not very productive and the permanent humidity favored diseases. The moderately hot summer finally gave way to a beautiful month of September, allowing us to wait for the complete maturity of the grapes, with late harvests.
The second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild, the "Carruades de Lafite" 2008, reveals a beautiful dense and brilliant color. The nose is expressive of red fruits with nice smoky notes. A frank and precise attack on the palate, then the expression densifies and lengthens. A well-balanced wine with a hint of liveliness then silky on the finish. It is made from 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.

Falstaff March - 2012
Falstaff
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections. On the nose, delicately vegetal undertones of dark berry fruit, leafy spice, tobacco notes, subtle nougat. Juicy, initially rather red berry on the palate, fine blueberry compote, fine tannins, mineral-saline on the finish, fresh cherries on the aftertaste, citrus touch on the back palate.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. The nose is more ostentatious than its peers, lifted blackberry, cassis and cedar aromas, a more hedonistic Pauillac along not dissimilar lines to Pontet Canet? The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. Supple in the mouth, very smooth and seductive with a seamless finish. There is a touch of hickory developing on the aftertaste. Very fine and better than I expected given previous encounters.

Medium intensity showing some evolution. Pretty light nose. A bit of rawness on the finish. Second wine? Doesn’t really hang together.

Smooth and ripe, with some softness as befits a second wine. The fruit is open, ripe, generous. The effect is of a fruity Merlot based wine, with just enough weight.

Dark, ripe, forest berries with hint of cedar. Elegantly woven and well balanced red with layers of flavours. Reserved at the moment but all the components show potential to open/age. Wonderfully knit tannins with fairly long finish.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favoring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
