CARRUADES DE LAFITE 1999

This year was vegetative and again early, with an increased need for technical monitoring throughout the vegetation. At the end of September, the harvest was very quick and took place partly in the rain. The superb weather conditions of August and early September had already made this vintage a success. The result is a vintage of fine expression.
The second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild, the "Carruades de Lafite" 1999 is of great aromatic intensity, with red fruits. The palate is supple and long with silky and elegant tannins. This wine is made from 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot.

Dark red color. Medium to good intensity. Bright. Medium intensity nose. Discreet. Vanilla. Lovely oak which seems fresher to me than previously. Soft attack developing round and fruity without showing any hollowness in the mid-palate. The development is well-balanced, firm and flavorsome. Medium persistence. Pleasant wine but which does not or no longer has the similar touch nuance to the Grand Lafite. Here the finish is firmer. Is it the vintage or the vinification method (concentration)?

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favoring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
