CHÂTEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 1991

The vines suffered very heavy frosts, the worst in decades.
However, the 1991 harvest was good, with storms and sunny periods. The 1991 vintage is impressive, by its quality and its consistency. Château Lafite Rothschild 1991 is a wine with well worked tannins, they are light while remaining ripe. This wine is very frank, straight and clean, with a good length in the mouth.

Doctorwine (03-2016) A full, red color with a transparent edge. The bouquet has notes of orange and spice, curry and turmeric, crushed flowers and moss. The mouthfeel is solemn yet stimulating thanks to its broadness and drinkability. Despite the ‘classic’ year, the wine expresses itself with great empathy.

Bright red. Medium intensity. Black reflections. Evolved. Clean nose. Medium intensity. Fruity. Animal. Swirling. Quite reduced. The palate starts soft with flesh, but quickly evolves more lively and acidic in the finish, lacking fat.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild, 1st growth classified in 1855, is one of the most renowned Bordeaux châteaux. It shares the top position with the greatest in the official 1855 classification. Located in the Pauillac appellation, the 103-hectare vineyard is divided into three plots: the slopes surrounding the château, the Carruades plateau to the west, and a 4.5-hectare plot in the neighboring commune of Saint-Estèphe. The majority of the terroir consists of fine, deep gravel mixed with aeolian sand on a tertiary limestone base. The grape variety composition is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines for the grand vin is 40 years, with the 20 hectares of young vines (less than 10 years old) being used for the second wine. There are also extremely old plots of over 80 years, one called "La Gravière" even dating back to 1886. Wine maturation is carried out for 18 to 20 months in 100% new oak barrels. Lafite Rothschild produces approximately 15,000 to 20,000 cases per year. The estate also produces a second wine, Carruades de Lafite, with about 25,000 to 30,000 cases. The name of Château Lafite Rothschild's second wine comes from the "Carruades plateau", where a group of plots was located, which was purchased by the château in the 19th century and adjoined the château's hillock. The "Carruades de Lafite" was formerly called "Moulin des Carruades", before taking on the name Carruades de Lafite.

The legendary vintages of Château Lafite Rothschild are 1921, 1945, 1959, 1982, 1986, 1988 and 2000, 2005 in recent years.
