Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1959 is unquestionably the greatest Lafite-Rothschild that has approached full maturity. It remains to be seen whether vintages such as 1982, 1986, and 1990 will reach a similar height. The super-aromatic bouquet of flowers, black truffles, cedar, lead pencil, and red fruits is followed by one of the most powerful and concentrated Lafites I have tasted. Medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured, rich, and pure, it is a testament to what this great estate can achieve when it hits the mark.

Tasted from magnum. This vintage, for Lafite, deserves the reputation that '61 has. Only the '89 vintage tasted better out of 93 vintages in the tasting. Its hallmark is a minty juniper aroma backed by luscious, rich, elegant flavors of black cherry so ripe and intense that they're almost pruny. Complete and delicious.

One of the best-ever Lafites...What has it got? The extraordinary ability to exude not only an immediate cedary perfume but, very much a Lafite specialty, the way it opens up further avenues of fragrance and subtle by-paths, lingering in the mouth. Each time you pick up your glass you notice another facet of scent and taste. It also happens to be a good drink, still a perfect beverage.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
If any bottle deserved 101 Pts, this is it! What a wine tasting experience. Unforgettable in every sense of the word, perhaps majestic captures the essence of this wine. The nose, with its non-stop bouquet of cedar, tobacco leaf, Cuban cigar box, spice, graphite, leaf, herbs, dried flowers, and currants created an incredible perfume. But the star of the show was the powerful, elegant, refined, intense display of red fruits, spice, earth, and tobacco on your palate. Absolutely seamless, the elegant character was as mindblowing as was the over 60 seconds of resonating fruits that had you wondering how a wine could be this good!

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild, 1st growth classified in 1855, is one of the most renowned Bordeaux châteaux. It shares the top position with the greatest in the official 1855 classification. Located in the Pauillac appellation, the 103-hectare vineyard is divided into three plots: the slopes surrounding the château, the Carruades plateau to the west, and a 4.5-hectare plot in the neighboring commune of Saint-Estèphe. The majority of the terroir consists of fine, deep gravel mixed with aeolian sand on a tertiary limestone base. The grape variety composition is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines for the grand vin is 40 years, with the 20 hectares of young vines (less than 10 years old) being used for the second wine. There are also extremely old plots of over 80 years, one called "La Gravière" even dating back to 1886. Wine maturation is carried out for 18 to 20 months in 100% new oak barrels. Lafite Rothschild produces approximately 15,000 to 20,000 cases per year. The estate also produces a second wine, Carruades de Lafite, with about 25,000 to 30,000 cases. The name of Château Lafite Rothschild's second wine comes from the "Carruades plateau", where a group of plots was located, which was purchased by the château in the 19th century and adjoined the château's hillock. The "Carruades de Lafite" was formerly called "Moulin des Carruades", before taking on the name Carruades de Lafite.

The legendary vintages of Château Lafite Rothschild are 1921, 1945, 1959, 1982, 1986, 1988 and 2000, 2005 in recent years.
