(06-2008) Very dark – darker than the 1961 – with the colour still right out to the rim. More concentrated and even sweeter than the 1961, with which it is inevitably compared. Very powerful and dense. Luscious, long and tense. Sweet, very rich, rather medicinal. Wonderful stuff.

(6-2000)
Most recently deep, tinged with cherry red; more scented too, earthy, cheese rind, singed tobacco, pebbly, its crisp fruit opening up richly; more astringent than the Chateau Haut Brion, crisper fruit, more aggressive, with excellent tannin and acidity.

(10-1994) It is interesting to note that many 1959s, much like the 1982s, were maligned for lacking both acidity and aging potential. How does one explain the fact that many 1959s are less evolved, as well as richer, fresher, and more complete than many 1961s? For example, as great as the 1961 La Mission is, the 1959 is a richer, deeper-colored, more concentrated and powerful wine. It needs at least 3-5 more years of cellaring to reach its plateau of maturity. Spicy and super-concentrated, with a dense, plummypurple color, this young, broodingly backward, formidably-endowed wine should be at its best before the end of the century and drink well for the first 20-25 years of the next millennium.

Mission Haut Brion
Mission Haut Brion

The Château La Mission Haut-Brion, is a vineyard located in Talence in Gironde. Located in AOC Pessac-Léognan, it is classified Grand Cru in the classification of wines of Graves. The estate was bought in 1983 by the Dillon family, owner of Haut Brion. It is undoubtedly this propensity to give everything at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission Haut-Brion and seduces many tasters. It is also the exacerbated expression of the soil of Graves of Pessac. In the course of its breeding and getting older, the Mission Haut-Brion is always generous, it is committed totally permanently. The hedonistic side of the Mission Haut-Brion and the permanence of these qualities are features that make it very attractive. La Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion is the second wine of the domain.
