Falstaff November - 2005
Falstaff
Medium carmine garnet, vital reflections, broader lightening of the edges. Very inviting on the nose, intense licorice, gently underlaid with blackcurrant, but also the typical medicinal note, delicate like iodine. Solid on the palate, fine blackberry jam, structured with finesse, balanced and characterful, fine nougat in the aftertaste. A typical, attractive La Mission with round tannins. A so-called "small" vintage, which has become very rare and still offers much drinking pleasure.

A touch of TCA, and plenty of cedar. Wouldn't like to call this one, as the palate too seems stripped by something. Certainly some meatiness but not an awful lot else there and tough to judge.

Château La Mission Haut Brion
Château La Mission Haut Brion

Château la Mission Haut-Brion is a wine estate located in Talence, Gironde. Situated in the Pessac-Léognan AOC, it is classified as a grand cru in the Graves wine classification. The estate was purchased in 1983 by the Dillon family, owners of Haut Brion. It is undoubtedly this propensity to give everything at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission Haut-Brion and attracts many tasters. It is also the heightened expression of the Graves de Pessac terroir. Throughout its aging process and as it matures, Mission Haut-Brion is always generous, constantly revealing itself fully. The hedonistic side of Mission Haut-Brion and the consistency of these qualities are particularities that make it very appealing. La Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion is the estate's second wine.

The greatest vintages: 2000, 1994, 1993, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1986, 1985, 1982, 1981, 1979, 1978, 1975, 1964, 1961, 1959, 1955, 1953, 1952, 1950, 1949, 1948, 1947, 1945, 1929.
