The 1975 La Mission-Haut-Brion has been the most consistent wine of the vintage. Super-concentrated, and now beginning to shed enough tannin so that it can be fully appreciated, this enormously constituted La Mission-Haut-Brion has developed that fabulous Graves set of aromatics - tobacco, black fruits, minerals, roasted herbs, and cedar. Huge, massive, thick, and succulent, with moderate tannin, and some amber notes at the edge, this wine will reach full maturity by the turn of the century and last for 30-40 years. An extraordinary La Mission-Haut-Brion, it comes closest in style to resembling the 1945, with a hint of the sweet, ripe 1959. The notes for this wine are taken from the description of Series I of the 1995 tasting conducted in Munich by Helga and Hardy Rodenstock.

A hint of smokehouse, bacony nuances that dissipate with air, pleasant red forest berry compote with delicate cherry notes underneath. There is some controversy about this wine - some love it and others think it is not that special. I can see both sides since I have seen lots of bottle variation with this vintage. This was a great bottle of 1975 and it was elegantly mature with layers of spices and dried black tea leaf flavors with supple, firm tannins. With over 40 years of bottle age, this wine has mellowed and softened with lovely perfume and nice finish. Points are given for its delicious drinkability rather than power or concentration.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the most iconic estates in Pessac-Léognan, renowned for the depth, longevity and singularity of its red and white wines. Classified as a Cru Classé de Graves, the château shares with its illustrious neighbor Château Haut-Brion a long history and an exceptional terroir, while asserting its own stylistic identity, often described as more powerful and more earthy.

Planted on deep gravelly soils mixed with clay and sand, the vineyard benefits from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc for the whites. This diversity allows for precise assemblages, giving rise to wines of great aromatic intensity, structured yet always balanced.
