Jean-Marc Quarin November - 2009
Jean-Marc Quarin
Tasted decanted. Drawing on previous experiences, I tasted this wine decanted at the last minute, and blind. Result: superb! It shines with its complex nose, very fruity, spiced and fine. The palate is meticulous in its touch and powerful at the same time. Mid-palate full and above all very open. Powerful finish with a slightly square tannin structure, but very flavorful. Strong pleasure note at the moment.

Tom Cannavan January - 2008

Another dark, solidly crimson wine. Very, very tight, muscular and dense, with a layering of tobacco and woodsmoke, and that refined mineral quality. On the palate this has a tight, but plump fruit character, with a wrapping of supple, suede like tannin, but also a sense of meaty, chewy structure. Impressive, and has the intrinsic weight and balance to improve.

Better on the nose, with its campfire, tobacco leaf, cigar box, soy and earthy, bright red berries, than on the tannic, strict, full-bodied, palate. Give it a few hours in the decanter, or wait another decade, hoping it will further soften

(4-2014) Dark and rather gamey - possibly even a tad bretty at first. Though it did somehow clean itself up in the glass after 30-40 minutes. Lacks the freshness and definition of the Haut-Brion 1986 tasted alongside. Certainly exotic and very ripe.

Château La Mission Haut Brion
Château La Mission Haut Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the most emblematic estates of Pessac-Léognan, recognized for the depth, longevity and singularity of its red and white wines. Classified as Cru Classé de Graves, the château shares with its illustrious neighbor Château Haut-Brion an ancient history and an exceptional terroir, while asserting its own stylistic identity, often described as more powerful and more earthy.

Planted on deep gravel soils mixed with clays and sands, the vineyard benefits from a grape variety dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc for the whites. This diversity allows for precise blends, giving birth to wines of great aromatic intensity, structured, but always balanced.

Since its integration into the Dillon family, La Mission Haut-Brion has undergone an exemplary modernization of its facilities while maintaining a respectful approach to the terroir. Vinifications are conducted with great precision, aiming to preserve the expression of the soil and the purity of the fruit.

Major vintages such as Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1947, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1949, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1955, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1982, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1989, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1990, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2000, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2010, illustrate the estate's capacity to produce exceptional wines for aging, sought after on the great collection wines market and recognized for their remarkable evolution over the decades.
