CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT BRION 2008

Tasting notes : Resplendent dress of an intense red. Complex nose of ripe red fruits accompanied by familiar accents typical of this great estate. This "great wine" at first a little closed in the mouth, slowly opens to reveal a great length and finesse of ripe fruits. The dense tannins marry wonderfully. A very beautiful La Mission Haut-Brion.

Grape variety / Blend : 43% Merlot, 51% Cabernet Sauvignon & 6% Cabernet Franc (variations are possible from one vintage to another)

Ageing : Oaked

Maturity : 2015-2055

Food and Wine Pairing : Beef and venison

A muscular wine, with well-defined tannins. The acidity is high, hiding the power and richness of the fruit behind. Then dark tannins come through, with other ripe fruits, finishing with a mineral character.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Like a lot of wines in this underrated vintage, the 2008 La Mission was one of the great bargains of recent vintages. Its healthy blue/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush and forest floor. The scorched earthy/smoky character of this estate’s terroir has not yet emerged. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated with good acidity, freshness and delineation, this is a big wine for the vintage, but also very classic in its balance of tannin, acidity and extract. It will benefit from another 5-7 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades. The final blend was 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.

Wonderful vibrancy and lifted dark berry fruit. This wine is concentrated and intense but maintains its elegance and grace. Tannins are impressively managed with velvety texture and generosity. Very long finish with potential to age for decades. A very successful year for La Mission in 2008.

Château La Mission Haut Brion
Château La Mission Haut Brion

Château la Mission Haut-Brion is a wine estate located in Talence, Gironde. Situated in the Pessac-Léognan AOC, it is classified as a grand cru in the Graves wine classification. The estate was purchased in 1983 by the Dillon family, owners of Haut Brion. It is undoubtedly this propensity to give everything at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission Haut-Brion and attracts many tasters. It is also the heightened expression of the Graves de Pessac terroir. Throughout its aging process and as it matures, Mission Haut-Brion is always generous, constantly revealing itself fully. The hedonistic side of Mission Haut-Brion and the consistency of these qualities are particularities that make it very appealing. La Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion is the estate's second wine.
