(6-2006) Dark crimson with ruby rim. Lovely sumptuous nose – no shortage of ripeness. Gentle – not a fruit bomb nor an oak bomb and so much the better for it. Quite forward and already lots of pleasure. Perhaps you can detect a bit of Viognier on the nose. Very fine, almost invisible tannins and (just) sufficient acidity. Apparently, against their initial thoughts, they ended up giving 2002s the usual 40 mths in new oak – and it has worked! You would never in a million years think this has had 40 mths of new oak. Muted after the '03 but beautifully balanced.

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, the family estate has built its reputation on an exacting interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the domaine embodies a heritage vision of great wine, recognized on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and ages in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. This same site also ensures the aging of emblematic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, guaranteeing perfect mastery of aging and a coherent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal distinguishes itself with wines of remarkable depth and longevity.
