Wine Spectator June - 2001

Thick and supple, this ultrarich red caresses the palate. Full-bodied, it's loaded with oak and fruit, tasting balanced from start to finish. Very dark, showing mocha, licorice, chocolate, blackberry, tobacco leaf, blueberry and lingonberry complexity and an incredibly long finish.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Purchased when these wines were affordable, it was easy to buy a case, open a bottle every year to two and watch it develop. This bottle was still beautiful, but perhaps at the peak, or close to to peak because even with its floral, white fruit, spice, kirsch, garrigue and black raspberry character, the was a hair less interesting than when last tasted. This does not mean you need to worry about drinking it, as there is more than ample, fresh, silky, exotic, ripe, fresh berries remaining, but it's a not a wine to make old bones with.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The spectacular, dense ruby/purple-colored 1997 Cote Rotie La Mouline boasts a complex nose of violets, peaches, and cassis. Soft, voluptuous, medium to full-bodied, and incredibly seductive, it is reminiscent of the 1991 and 1987. This wine's aromatic fireworks, sumptuous texture, and seamless personality represent perfection. While the percentage of Viognier blended with Syrah can vary from 8-12%, this remains one of the world's most intensely perfumed and compelling wines.

(05/2018) Still very dark color. The nose is on black fruits, blackberry, blackcurrant. Very elegant. Velvety palate, soft, enveloping. Great finesse of tannins. A very beautiful Côte Rôtie as we like them.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, the family estate has built its reputation on an exacting interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the domaine embodies a heritage vision of great wine, recognized on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and ages in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. This same site also ensures the aging of emblematic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, guaranteeing perfect mastery of aging and a coherent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal distinguishes itself with wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Vintages that have become references, such as Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque 1985, Guigal La Landonne 1990, Guigal La Landonne 1989, Guigal Hermitage Ex-Voto 2003, Guigal La Mouline 1999, Guigal La Landonne 1989, Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2010, Guigal La Mouline 2018 testify to the qualitative consistency and exceptional aging potential of the estate.
