Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Decanted immediately on opening, because this remains firmly structured even at 25 years old, and feels a good number of years younger than the 1995. Once the oxygen softens things up, the autmnal but still-juicy cassis and bilberry fruits begin to spiral out of the glass. There is tobacco and smoked earth here, alongside clear black truffles, olive tapenade, flavours that indicate a high quality vintage that favoured Cabernet Sauvignon. Still fairly upright and strict, give it time in a carafe to ensure the tannins become supple enough to let the beauty of this wine out, but don’t feel you need to wait too long – there is real beauty her

Fresh, vital, very youthful nose with spice-flecked deep black fruits. There is a meaty, earthy depth to this, with that animal, quite sauvage note beneath the plush fruit and spice. The palate is in a fairly tough grip of the structure at this stage, with plentry of tight, sinewy tannin and an orangy grip to the acidity. The finish shows that this has harmony and all the components to age very gracefully. One to revisit in a few years.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
A mature Bordeaux red wine. Expressive on the nose, very Bordeaux, cigar box, smoky notes, plums, blackcurrants, a poem. The palate is perfectly ripe, with fine-grained tannins, extremely elegant, fresh, delicate red fruits, perfect acidity, lively yet exuding calm, and a long finish, this is a textbook Bordeaux. Drink until 2030+

It reflects the Gruaud style of the era. Virile, it is a wine built on power and endowed with real charm.

Evolved color. The nose offers a bouquet of maturity dominated by cedar and red fruit. Supple entry on the palate, then the wine develops with great flavor on rounded tannins. The body drops off a little on the finish. That's a shame. Ready to drink.

Mid ruby. Light nose but attractive sweet, mellow fruit. No tannin, or hardly any, and the mellow fruit has not yet faded. But it's far from a blockbuster.

Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose is one of the major historic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, classified Second Growth in the 1855 classification. Founded in the 18th century, the château quickly established itself as a Médoc reference, driven by an ambitious quality vision and a reputation that extended far beyond the borders of Bordeaux.

Established on deep gravel terroirs resting on clay-limestone subsoils, the vineyard benefits from an ideal environment for the expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape in the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This combination gives Gruaud Larose wines a pronounced structure, marked aromatic depth and remarkable aging capacity.

The château is also distinguished by its philosophy summarized in the estate's historic motto: "The King of Wines, the Wine of Kings." For several decades, significant investments have been made in both vineyard and cellar, with particular attention paid to sustainability, biodiversity and precision vinification.

Iconic vintages such as Château Gruaud Larose 1928, Château Gruaud Larose 1945, Château Gruaud Larose 1982, Château Gruaud Larose 1986, Château Gruaud Larose 1990, Château Gruaud Larose 1991, Château Gruaud Larose 2000, Château Gruaud Larose 2005, Château Gruaud Larose 2009 perfectly illustrate the estate's style: powerful, refined wines, both full-bodied and elegant, now highly sought after in the collectible wine market.
