Medium deep straw colour with fine bubbles. The nose is mature and complex with spicy notes, nougat, candied fruit, roasted nuts and smoke. The palate has good power, intense flavours of ripe stone fruit, spices, nougat and a fine creamy mousse, good freshness, rather low dosage, some nutty notes on the finish, very long and lingering finish.

This is a wine that thrives on tension between its structure, opulence, elegance and poise. It is certainly ripe and opulent, but it is so well balanced and layered with acidity, and flavors of almonds, orange peel and kiwi fruits. It will certainly age.

Allen Meadow - Burghound
An elegant but austere wine that is almost as reticent as the '96 with pure citrus and floral aromas that continue onto the crisp and still very tight medium-bodied flavors that are beautifully precise and impressively delineated on the gorgeously long finish. This is a long way from being ready and I wouldn't touch a bottle for another 5 to 7 years.

Delicious, beautifully aged Dom with biscuity notes and freshly baked bread. The bubbles have subsided but it adds to the round generosity of the champagne that is more like a white wine. At its peak, not a wine to keep much longer.

A powerful, bruising Dom Pérignon, broad and monolithic, ultimately lacking some complexity. Far better as a “P2” edition. Drink 2018-2025.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1998 Dom Perignon comes across as somewhat two–dimensional and lacking the sheer cut of the 2000. There is plenty of ripeness in the fruit, but not quite the definition and verve of the finest vintages. This looks to be a relatively early-drinking Dom Perignon.

Pale gold. Fruit smells much riper than on the Dom Ruinart 98. Toasty with a hint of char, almost a little reductive, ginger too. Rich and toasty on impact then filled in the middle with a really bright citrus freshness. Marked struck-match character on the palate. Dense and still so full of energy. Generous in flavour and a tension keeping it in shape on the finish. Lots of char as it opens up.

Dom Perignon

Dom Pérignon is a legendary Champagne House and one of the most renowned in the world. In 1668, a young Benedictine monk, Dom Pierre Pérignon, was appointed procurator at the Abbey of Hautvillers. With the ambition to produce the "best wine in the world", he was deeply inspired and his vision revolutionized viticulture with standards that remain the reference for all champagne wines. The House's commitment is that champagnes can only be produced from a single year's harvest.

Dom Pérignon's productions were highly prized at that time. After Dom Pérignon's death, the price decreased somewhat, but not its popularity. The 1921 vintage is undoubtedly the best vintage. Dom Pérignon champagnes have very long aging potential.
