CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 2000

This year, the warm and rainy spring favored the early development of mildew, which was fortunately stopped by the very dry conditions of the summer. The total absence of precipitation in August and September was very beneficial to the ripening and concentration of the berries.
Château Margaux 2000 is characterized by elegance and softness on the palate, reminiscent of the 1990 and 1996 vintages. The 2000 vintage at Château Margaux is a great vintage that required more than 2 years of aging in barrels. A patience that can be prolonged, because this classified growth is a wine made for ageing. It will undoubtedly reveal all its aromas to us over the next few decades.

Now, you are talking. This is a heat-stopping vintage of Margaux. The perfume, with its lavender, lilacs, currants, plums, cedar and tobacco hits you. But it is the rich, opulent, silky, sensuous, multi-layered palate presence with its seamless finish that steals the show. Drink this now, or age it for 2-3-4 decades!

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Absolutely compelling in two tastings of this vintage, the 2000 Margaux is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The extraordinary seductiveness, complex aromatics, and purity it exhibits lead me to believe it has reached its window of full maturity. Medium-bodied, with layers of concentration, stunning blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, a subtle dosage of new oak, and a distinctive personality that is elegant while at the same time powerful and substantial, this is a multi-dimensional wine that was extremely approachable and drinkable in both tastings I had of it. The color remains a healthy, even opaque bluishpurple, but there is no reason to hesitate to drink it. It should evolve for another 30-40 years, so there is no hurry either.

Tasted blind and decanted. Three more years and decanting have surely done this wine good, which is beginning to open up and increasingly resembles what its true potential is. Great red color, dark, intense, bright, slight evolution. Very beautiful nose, not yet fully open, but very distinguished, fresh, fine, floral, subtle. The entry on the palate is a caress. The wine develops very, very slowly, perfectly occupying the mid-palate. Extremely aromatic, fleshy, very typical of Margaux, it finishes with a very refined tannic quality. Great class!

Muscular yet classy. Breathtaking aromas of black licorice, violets, berry and cherry, with light hints of spices and minerals. It's all there in the nose. Full-bodied, with an ultrafine tannin structure and a finish that goes on for minutes. This may turn out even better than 1995 due to its layers and layers of fine tannins and fruit but I can't give more than 100 points.

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the most prestigious estates in the Margaux appellation and a major historical figure of Bordeaux excellence. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, the château is built upon a terroir of fine, deep gravels that favor the expression of a wine of rare elegance and great aromatic complexity.

The Grand Vin of Château Margaux has been recognized since the 17th century as one of the most accomplished expressions of the Bordeaux vineyard. It owes its qualities to the combination of an exceptional terroir, demanding viticulture and vinification work oriented toward precision and balance. The tannic finesse, aromatic depth, freshness and length on the palate constitute the constant hallmarks of the Margaux style.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Margaux 1899, Château Margaux 1949, Château Margaux 1953, Château Margaux 1982, Château Margaux 1990, Château Margaux 1990, Château Margaux 2000 or the iconic Château Margaux 2015 illustrate the estate's ability to produce wines of great complexity, capable of evolving harmoniously over several decades while maintaining a remarkable readability of their terroir.
