CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1970

The 1970 harvest was very large in volume, it benefited from excellent climatic conditions throughout the summer and until the end of the harvest.
The equipment of the vats, in particular the number of vats, was not adapted to such a large harvest even in the largest castles. The vinification conditions were therefore not always ideal. Indeed, Château Margaux 1970 testifies well to the quality of the vintage, but lacks a little concentration and flesh. Its nose is complex, well evolved, intense and quite harmonious. A fine and pleasant impression on the palate, but quite short and dry on the finish. This great wine should be drunk now, but it also has good keeping potential, and even improvement, as it tends to open up and blossom in the glass.

Color of medium and evolved intensity. Very intense nose, fine, fruity, fresh, with a note of coffee. Mellow and lively at the same time from the attack, with taste, a touch of old wood in the flavor, a unified and very slender body, the wine evolves particularly silky, a touch lively, but unspittable. Here the magic comes from this rare and paradoxical association between mellowness and nervousness. These perceptions are the same as those found throughout the 2016 vintage. To drink between 1990 and 2040.

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the greatest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux is listed among the First Growth wines in the official 1855 Médoc classification.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does great honor to it.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently gathered by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from a particularly dense and thick clay-gravel soil.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among Bordeaux wines, considered by some to be the best, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity in tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance with notes of rose, violet, and black fruits, underpinned by tight tannins that require patient aging before reaching their full potential. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

The greatest vintages of Château Margaux are: 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
