CHÂTEAU D'YQUEM 1982
CHÂTEAU D'YQUEM 1982
If multiple bottles are in stock, the photo is non-contractual and illustrates the condition of the bottle.

The Château d'Yquem rested all its hopes on a single sorting carried out on September 16th. Due to severe weather, the grapes were too damaged, so the other selections are unusable. Wine lovers will remember the finesse and balance of this charming Château d'Yquem 1982 despite the low yields.

Revista Adega : After these giants, we still tasted the Yquem 1982 in a double magnum bottle (3 liters!). Although this harvest was not the best for the development of botrytis, it gave rise to this fascinating wine, which highlights the typical Yquem saffron when aged. And this along with the honey and balance that all sweet wines in the world would like to have.

So it was the bottle! The wine continues its beautiful and noble adventure. Coppery and intense color. Very fine, subtle nose, delicately vanilla-scented, giving an impression of timelessness. Melting, airy, silky and powerful palate, with a very beautiful brightness of fruit. Subtle finish, noble texture. Superb. A great success for Yquem that I have always judged superior to the 1983.

Luminous medium golden yellow, silver reflections. Intense nuances of floral honey, orange marmalade, mandarin segments, some lanolin and saffron, seductive bouquet. Complex, juicy, well-integrated sweetness, appears substantial and powerful, pleasant wood spice on the finish, a rather baroque style, which is owed to the hot vintage, already fully matured, versatile in use.

A nice d'Yquem, but short of thrilling, the wine is on the orange, tropical side of the style range with caramel, molasses, and brown sugar nuances that ride along with the candied orange rind, molasses, tangerine and candied orange rind, topped with an array of spices and butterscotch. Drink from 2022-2037.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Granny Smith apple, silky and mellow texture, fresh acidity, notes of quince, saffron, and truffle, all enhanced by delicate citrus notes. Less concentrated than many years of Yquem, it sits on a plateau, but will not improve further. Unlike Bordeaux reds, the 1982 Sauternes was more complex, and only the first passages of the vineyard, in September, were used for the final blend. But this wine remains magical, enjoyable to drink. 108 g/l of sugar, one of the lowest ever recorded.

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference for great sweet wines and occupies a unique place in the wine history of Bordeaux. Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from exceptional terroir and microclimate that favor the development of botrytis cinerea. During the official classification of 1855, Château d'Yquem obtained an unparalleled status by being consecrated Premier Cru Supérieur, a unique distinction among the great classified growths.

The identity of Château d'Yquem is based on extreme rigor at every stage of production: very low yields, harvesting by successive selections and rigorous selection of grapes. Long owned by the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the technical independence and historical rigor of the château.

In great years, Château d'Yquem gives birth to vintages that have become emblematic, such as Château d'Yquem 1908, Château d'Yquem 1921, Château d'Yquem 1945, Château d'Yquem 1949, Château d'Yquem 1967, Château d'Yquem 2009, illustrating an exceptional aging capacity, which can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
