The 1987 vintage was successful in all Sauternes. The Château d'Yquem 1987 has a rather fresh nose at first sight, in the mouth the fruit dominates, with notes of peach and apricot. A light touch of orange blossom balances this very varied aromatic palette.

Tom Cannavan (01-2002) Delightful botrytis here on this golden-hued wine. Very fine and surprisingly youthful, with honeyed apricot, tangerine and exotic pineapple notes. There's a nutty, toffeed undertone, and a hint of citrus too - even a minerally component. Beautiful palate, with terrific sweetness that floods over the tongue in honeyed silkiness. Fine nutty quality, again more rich, ripe apricot character and clean, though generous acidity that extends a pure, lingering finish. An excellent and beautiful wine.

To my knowledge, this is the only Yquem that was partly produced with the help of cryoextraction. Light and golden color. Simple nose. Notes of fruit (mirabelle plum). Finely sweet palate, flavorful, pleasant, finishing on a note of saffron. Medium length.

From what's considered an average vintage in Sauternes, this is a surprisingly good Yquem. Lively, with good acidity, of medium body and with lemon, pineapple, orange and chocolate notes. It reveals its vintage pedigree in the slightly pedestrian finish.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1987, from a difficult vintage, is a medium-weight d'Yquem, with enticing oaky, tropical fruit aromas, but the unctuosity and profound depth of flavor so obvious in top years are not present.

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference for great sweet wines and occupies a unique place in the wine history of Bordeaux. Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from exceptional terroir and microclimate that favor the development of botrytis cinerea. During the official classification of 1855, Château d'Yquem obtained an unparalleled status by being consecrated Premier Cru Supérieur, a unique distinction among the great classified growths.

The identity of Château d'Yquem is based on extreme rigor at every stage of production: very low yields, harvesting by successive selections and rigorous selection of grapes. Long owned by the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the technical independence and historical rigor of the château.

In great years, Château d'Yquem gives birth to vintages that have become emblematic, such as Château d'Yquem 1908, Château d'Yquem 1921, Château d'Yquem 1945, Château d'Yquem 1949, Château d'Yquem 1967, Château d'Yquem 2009, illustrating an exceptional aging capacity, which can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
