Ageing: 18 to 22 months in new oak barrels

Jancis Robinson March - 2006

Rather a muddy, diffuse nose – though could be interpreted as comforting. Super-rich fruitcake on the palate. Quite dry tannins on the finish. This wine seemed very different from all the other 1996s tasted in this range – fullblown yet not ready to drink. At a decidedly awkward stage.

Jean-Marc Quarin May - 2012

Evolved color of medium intensity. Fruity, smoky and toasted nose. The wine begins caressing, becomes powerful in the middle and particularly fragrant. It melts in the finish, rather graceful on a very beautiful savory and noble length with fine grain. An unexpected success of the vintage.

(2007) Wild aromas of crushed fruit, forest flower and wild mushrooms. Full-bodied, with incredibly velvety tannins that go on and on. Lovely and exciting fruit. Gorgeous, seductive wine. Hard to resist now. Better than I remember.

Jeannie Cho Lee March - 2015

Compared with the 1995, this vintage is tighter, more closed right now with savory herbs and black tea leaf flavors. Tannic and tightly wound, this vintage will need time to unfurl its layers. Even after two hours in the glass, the wine is angular and restrained - best to be patient with this vintage, give it another three to five years. Given its structure, it may out-live the 1995 vintage.

Petrus

Petrus is one of the most emblematic and sought-after wines of the Pomerol appellation, occupying a special place in the Bordeaux wine landscape. Unlike the great classified growths of the Médoc, Pomerol has no official classification, but Pétrus has established itself over time as the absolute reference of the appellation, recognized for the singularity of its terroir and the exceptional consistency of its wines.

The Petrus vineyard rests on a unique plateau of clay-ferruginous soils, dominated by a high proportion of blue clay, rare in Bordeaux. This terroir gives the wines a dense structure, remarkable depth and an immediately recognizable identity. The grape variety is almost exclusively composed of Merlot, a grape that finds here an expression of rare intensity.

The international renown of Petrus was built in the 20th century, notably under the impetus of remarkable figures who shaped its style and reputation. Petrus wines are distinguished by their richness, silky texture and exceptional aging potential. Among the emblematic vintages Petrus 1961, Petrus 1982, Petrus 1989, Petrus 1990, Petrus 2000, Petrus 2005, Petrus 2009, Petrus 2010, Petrus 2011, Petrus 2016, Petrus 2017, Petrus 2018, regularly cited among the greatest wines of Bordeaux.
