The Château Mouton Rothschild 1988 label was created by the American painter and sculptor Keith Haring. Like other artists before him, he chose to stage one of the symbols of the Château: the rams. On a mauve colored background, we can see dancing rams.
Château Mouton Rothschild 1988 reveals toasted notes, caramel, blond tobacco, liquorice, as well as aromas of vanilla and flowers such as lily. This Premier Cru Classé is made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

(05-2018) Nuanced ruby colour. Dense, spicy, exotic nose with definite ingredient X. Not rich but very pure and very Mouton with its grace notes of warm flint stones. Long and nuanced.  Really appetising and aristocratic.

(06-2018) Here is one of the three winners of this tasting. Dark color, of medium and evolved intensity. Intense nose, particularly smoky, reduced and rather surprising in the taste landscape of this tasting. Dense on the attack, juicy on the development, particularly fruity, with a slightly austere texture, but sappy and fragrant, this wine stretches out on a very good finish.

(11-1998) Though I don't consider this a perfect wine, it has always been classic in quality. It's rich and fruity, with loads of currant, tobacco, smoke and new wood on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and an elegant finish.

Tom Cannavan (01-2002) Lovely quality again, with a slightly more developed briarwood, chestnut and pencil-shaving nose. Not quite so delicious as the 1990, but possibly finer. There are notes of coffee, tobacco and finely-wrought blackcurrant and plum. On the palate very fresh and positive, with sweet berry fruit and a sense of minerality at the core. There's a good framework of toasty oak, balanced acidity and fine, silky tannins. Lovely quality here.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Mouton Rothschild is arguably one of the best-known wine estates in the world. In AOC Pauillac, since 1973 it has been First Classified Growth in the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855.

Bought in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton became legendary under the name of Château Mouton-Rothschild. It is with the advent of Baron Philippe de Rothschild that Mouton really becomes the monumental 1er Cru that it is today. Mouton Rothschild 1945 and 1982 are among their finest vintages. In addition to the construction of cellars and buildings, and the accession to Premier Cru status, it is the passion of a lifetime rediscovered in action by this exceptional man.

Classified as a Second Classified Growth in 1855, Château Mouton Rothschild has been a Premier Classified Growth since 1973. Its motto "First not then, second not deign, Mouton am" thus became "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change".

The elegance and magic of this wine have thus charmed the greatest contemporary artists who, each year, illustrate with their art the priceless wines of Mouton by creating an original work on the label. Château D'Armailhac and Château Clerc Milon follow in the footsteps of this quality concern of the Rothschild family.

The great vintages of Château Mouton Rothschild are: 1994, 1989, 1986, 1985, 1983, 1982, 1970, 1966, 1962, 1961, 1959, 1955, 1953, 1949, 1947, 1945
