The 1979 Léoville Las Cases was a great surprise. In appearance, it showed a slight brown tone with some sediment, reflecting its age. The initial nose presented ripe plum, cherry, earthy tones, and leather, all beautifully integrated. On the palate, the wine had a wonderful mouthfeel with fully resolved tannins, offering a seamless and elegant texture. Tasted side by side with a 2016 Léoville Poyferré Pavillon, the 1979 Las Cases completely outshone it, displaying remarkable depth, complexity, and layered nuances that evolved beautifully in the glass. A stunning example of a mature Bordeaux at its peak.

Almost opaque. Vigorous nose: tar, ink, blackcurrant & soot. Very tannic & full-bodied palate. Damsons. But harmonious and smooth. Like an 86 - very Cabernet Sauvignon dominated. Liquorice/coffee notes on the finish. Opulent stylish Las Cases - the best of the 70's.

Ruby red color with vermilion reflections. Evolving. Very shiny. Very beautiful and intense. Clean and intense nose. Nuances of ripe fruit, touch of wood and spice. Cedar note. Fine, complex and rather open. With a clean and intense agitation. Quite powerful. Balsamic and rich (caramel, vanilla, spice.) Very fresh. Clean, sweet and fruity attack. Development on a fleshy, elongated, very well balanced structure which evolves on a fine, rather juicy tactile contact, towards a rounded finish which gently vanishes, quite elegant and already melted. Some charm. Alright. Can be drunk.

Medium-bodied, bright, crisp red fruits are at the core of the wine. On the secondary side, the tobacco, forest leaf, earth, peppery spice and herbs add color the piquant red berry notes. Frim and crisp, with a sharp cherry/cranberry, spice and tobacco note in the finish, the wine reqires drinking.

Château Leoville Las Cases
Château Leoville Las Cases

The Château Léoville Las Cases is a french estate located in Saint Julien Beychevelle in Gironde. It is a second classified growth in Médoc classification of 1855.

Jean-Hubert Delon is not lacking in passion nor discipline. The vintages who marched during the past quarter century testify for him. In the Saint-Julien appellation, whether the wines are from in important vintage or a less significant one, they are without a doubt amongst the best. A property absolutely exemplary in the Bordeaux region. The largest of the three Léoville is certainly the greatest in quality and, in the opinion of many, it should be among the first growths. Michel Delon, the "Lord" as he was known, is largely responsible for this recognition.

Since 1976, when he succeeded his father, he worked to reconstruct the drainage of land, to modernize and expand the winery, monitor the performance of its vines. He had this deep attachment to land and work values. His son Jean-Hubert took over in 2000, following his disparition. Las Cases is a  typical Saint-Julien of rare nobility of expression and has a breathtaking structure.
