 This is breathtaking. Black in color, with incredible aromas of crushed blackberry, mineral, licorice and lead pencil. Full-bodied, with a mind-blowing texture of seamless tannins that coat every millimeter of the palate. Goes on and on, with licorice, currant and flowers. Time will tell if it's better than the 2000. Best after 2017.

The 2005 Léoville Las Cases is a classic that numbers among the wines of the vintage in the Médoc. Wafting from the glass with notes of dark berries, cassis, incense, burning embers, sweet soil tones, dark chocolate and cigar wrapper, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a vibrant core of fruit, lively acids and sweet, powdery tannins. More elegant and refined than the hulking, uncompromising 2006, the 2005 is nevertheless a powerful, tightly wound wine that will reward further bottle age, even if it's actually quite expressive today.

Deep dark ruby garnet, black core, violet reflections, inviting ripe fruit on the nose, fine nougat, fascinating precision. On the palate, transparent fruit, a wine of great finesse, freshness and complexity, red berry nuances, silky-sweet tannins, marvelous length, a perfect wine that manages with just under 13% alcohol. Grandiose aging potential, undoubtedly of Premier Cru quality.

Mid to deep crimson. A stony, mineral undertow on the nose but with lovely lift and haunting scents too. Firm with a very ripe spread of flavours that almost distract from the weight of fine tannins underneath. Unlike some wines, this wears its tannic charge effortlessly. Racy and lifted. A very successful Las Cases.

Medium ruby, still with violet reflections. Profound nose, mocha, tea, cherries, with dried roses and violets above, floral and fruity, yet very stony at the same time. On the palate, linear, opulent, concentrated, dense, crisp fruit, fine tannins, excellent acidity, on one hand still wild and almost somewhat impetuous, but with air this wine develops beautifully and shows excellent length on the finish.

Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the most iconic estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, renowned for the precision, depth, and longevity of its wines. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has distinguished itself for over a century through an uncompromising level of quality and consistency that places it at the very top of the Médoc hierarchy.

Originating from the former Léoville estate, the Château Léoville Las Cases vineyard is today protected by a historic walled enclosure — a rare distinction in Bordeaux — ensuring a strong parcel-specific identity. Located directly on the banks of the Gironde, facing the great terroirs of Pauillac, the estate benefits from a privileged environment conducive to the slow and even ripening of the grapes.

The Grand Vin, often austere in its youth, requires many years of cellaring and boasts numerous highlights: the 1982 vintage, 1990, and the 1996 vintage among the great classics, 2000, the 2005 wine, and the 2010 vintage for the more recent period. Alongside it, the Clos du Marquis, a wine in its own right from neighboring plots, and Le Petit Lion, a more approachable second wine, complete the estate's range.
