The difficult climatic conditions of 1945 did not prevent the Château Latour winegrowers from producing great wines. The 1945 vintage is now one of the best vintages of Château Latour, if not the best. Spicy nose, and a very nice aromatic persistence in the mouth. Full of charm, this Château Latour 1945 is a great success.

This was served blind with my bottle of 1961 that had been a little disappointing on opening and was much racier and more transparent than the wine that turned out to the 1961. Chock full of life and vivacity, extremely racy, dancing and very legible. Mellifluous with all its tannins resolved. Much fresher than the bottle tasted at Morton's in London last year. Glorious wine.

Perfect in every way. Dark ruby color with an amber edge. Aromas of mint, berry, blackberry, earth and spices pop out of the glass. Full-bodied and brimming over with sweet fruit character, ripe and velvety tannins. Long and succulent finish. What more could you want in a wine? Best bottle of 1945 Latour I have ever had.

Medium garnet. Dried flowers, ripe plums, cedar. The 1945 tasted nearly 8 years ago at the chateau was memorable, but not as intense and complex as this bottle. This is an incredible wine with still lively fruit characters and a depth that comes from great structure, freshness and intense flavours. The long bottle aging has added depth and nuances which add to the complexity. The 1945 and the 1947 Latour are two of the best older Bordeaux that I have ever tasted. A glorious wine, ex-chateau!

A great wine. Surely one of the best ever Latours, drinking beautifully now but with many years more of life. Full-bodied, rich, complete, silky tannins, complex, great length.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The ’45 Latour has a quite incredible, show-stopping bouquet: utterly decadent with black cherries, sloes, fennel, nail vanish and a lot of volatility…but still entrancing. The palate has a tangible medicinal quality to it, as noted on the bottle served at Linden’s vertical, extraordinarily rich and ravishing, although not as refined or profound as Mouton. Another bottle was similar with creme de menthe, precocious rounded red fruits, utterly harmonious with a ripe, sweet, almost tart-like finish. Wonderful…if a bit of a crazy Latour!

Château Latour
Château Latour

The Château Latour is a french estate. It is ranked Premier Cru Classé in the Official Classification created in 1855.

There are 2 other Châteaux in the Pauillac appellation which also benefit from the prestigious title of 1er Cru Classé: Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild.

Created around 1680, Château Latour's vineyard is one of the oldest in the Médoc. At the heart of the estate, the main parcel, called "l'Enclos", is made up of 47 hectares of old vines that are preciously maintained, because only they are able to give birth to the "Grand Vin". The 18 hectares of exterior plots, the vines less than 10 years old and the possibly downgraded cuvées produce the second wine of the estate, "Les Forts de Latour". The wine of Château Latour is an example of regularity regardless of the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth ...

Latour is the epitome of excellence in good years and bad ones. Among the greatest vintages, the most beautiful achievements of the chateau: 1920, 1929, 1949, 1955, 1959, 1961, 1970, 1982, 1990, 2000.
