The 1977 vintage is rather mixed on the Bordeaux side. This Château Latour 1977 has a rather smoky cedar nose. On the palate, the wine is soft, with no astringency or harshness on tasting. This classified growth is mature but can still be kept in the cellar.

Medium to light structure, rounded, combining good tannic balance and acidity. It’s tasty. The tannin is melted, the finish simple and creamy. A slight dryness. Does not persist. Wine from another world now.

Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most iconic estates of the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in the history of Bordeaux winemaking. Its name appears as early as the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity still profoundly shapes the identity of the vineyard. As early as the 18th century, the wines of Château Latour were recognized for their consistency and their aging potential, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, Château Latour holds a central place at the very top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is built on a remarkably homogeneous terroir of deep gravels dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives its wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth, and a great consistency of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is defined by a dense tannic architecture and an exacting construction, favoring precision and longevity over immediate appeal. The estate has withdrawn from en primeur sales: it keeps its bottles at the property and releases them only at maturity. This patience can be read in its legendary vintages, from the 1945 vintage to the 1961 wine, from 1982 to 1990 through to 2009, illustrating the estate's ability to consistently express the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
