CHÂTEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2001

Maturity : 2010-2033

The winter was very wet with very mild temperatures. As a result, bud burst was early and flowering took place normally and very evenly. The summer was changeable, alternating with heat and cloudy periods until the harvest. Indeed, July was rather cool, August rather hot and September again cool with some rain. These weather conditions allowed a rather heterogeneous maturation and favorable conditions during the harvest.
The nose of this premier cru is intense with black fruits. Château Lafite Rothschild 2001 is a very elegant and harmonious wine, with powerful and very ripe tannins, very pure fruit and good persistence.

(6-2004) The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plumpurple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful.

Fully mature, sensual and elegant with a very pretty cedar and savory spice nose. The palate is velvety, balanced and charming. Long, lingering finish.

Continuing its march towards maturity, the cassis, cedar chest, tobacco, blackberry and forest floor aromas are right there. Supple, regal, polished, lush and fresh, the elegant charm of this wine is starting to poke through.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favoring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
