Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1982 Lafite possesses a dark, dense rubypurple color with only a subtle lightening at the rim. Spectacular aromatics offer jammy cherry and black fruits intertwined with lead pencil, mineral, and smoky wood scents. Powerful for a Lafite, this wine unfolds to reveal extraordinary richness, purity, and overall symmetry in addition to stunning flavor depth and persistence. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. Plenty of tannin remains, and the wine displays a vibrancy and youthfulness that belie its 18 years of age. The modern day equivalent of Lafite-Rothschild's immortal 1959, the 1982 will enjoy another 30-70 years of life! An amazing achievement!

Revista Adega : If I had to describe him in one word, it would be nobility. Crystal clear fruits, delicious cherries and plums. And all this with striking cedar, present tannins, cold ash and white pepper, together with fascinating acidity. Elegance at all costs with the strength to last for years. I hope to taste it again when I turn 50.

The best examples of this are simply great. Elegant, floral, refined, and packed with sweet, spicy, red fruits. cigar wrappers, currants, and cherries. There is length, energy, lift, freshness, and complexity. Drink from 2024-2040.

Not the most concentrated nor long-living 1982 though lovely to drink now. Perfumed, mineral, salty, long and juicy with a slightly drying finish. But overall transparent and nervy with some fine Lafite quality.

Acker Merrall and Condit: (5-2012) What did we have here? A 1982 Lafite Rothschild? Yes, we don’t only sell Lafite, we actually drink it, too. Can’t let it all go to the Mainland now, can we? The Lafite was tight, similar to the La Miss, with lots of cedar, minerals and iodine. Cedar dominated its gritty palate, with fireplace and brick flavors joining the party. It, too, might have benefitted from a couple extra hours. Later in the week, a client from the Mainland told me he had eight bottles of this in one night during the same week. Damn, I thought opening two bottles was impressive lol.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favoring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
