Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa and cassis. Fat, rich, opulent and full-bodied with low acidity and stunning seductiveness and complexity, this noble wine possesses a bountiful, generous, heady style. It is just coming into its plateau of maturity where it should hold for 20-25 years. These are two great successes in this vintage that have aged well and surprised me by their intensity and overall complexity.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
It is supple, ostentatious, showy and also, rich with layers of ripe, red berries, cedar, herbs, tobacco leaf, and spice. The wine is full, deep and concentrated with an opulent finish that is drinking just great today.

Falstaff February - 2019
Falstaff
Dark ruby garnet, deep color core, violet reflections, subtle lightening at the rim. Sweet, attractive roasted aromas, exotic wood nuances, hints of cedar, vanilla, coffee, licorice, plus cassis and candied violets. On the palate, substantial texture, dark berry fruit, present but silky tannins, finesse-rich structure, a highly elegant wine full of youthful charm, pleasant caramel notes on the finish, tremendous length, already very inviting, can still improve.

This is a splendid wine. Yes, it is more powerful than the usual aristocratic Lafites, but it still manages to retain a special air of great elegance and presence. The fruits are black, the tannins immensely powerful, the flavors are of black figs, dates, cocoa. At the end, there is a vibrant acidity that shows through, which promises a great life for this great wine.

Dark crimson. Strong cassis aromas. A sweet start on the palate. Fine, polished, very classy wine. Obviously elegant and extremely fresh on the finish. Excellent lift with very finely etched flavours.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château gained international renown, particularly among the European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, durably enshrining its status at the very top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

In the Rothschild family's possession since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravels perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favouring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Aged in new oak barrels, the wines focus on fine tannin grain, freshness and length rather than power, and require time before opening up. The estate's great reference points range from the 1982 wine, which ushered in the modern era, to the 1989 vintage and the 1996 wine for the end of the century, then to 2009 and the 2010 vintage, two consecutive years at the pinnacle of the recent period. Carruades de Lafite, more influenced by Merlot and drawn primarily from the eponymous plateau, offers the most accessible expression.
