The '76 was deeper than expected; its bouquet, mature and totally harmonious; good fruit, good drink yet with keen-edged tannins. Very drinkable.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1976 Lafite clearly stands far above the crowd in this vintage. A beautiful bouquet of seductive cedarwood, spices, and ripe fruit precedes a very concentrated, darkly colored wine, with great length and texture. Some amber is just beginning to appear at the edge. The 1976 has turned out to be the best Lafite of the '70s. It is gorgeous to drink at present.

Looking old for its age, the wine interestingly combines overripe ripe fruits with rustic tannins. The nose, with its earthy forest leaf, tobacco wrapper and lead pencil scents along with bright red fruit aromas are better than what you find on the palate.

Medium ruby garnet with orange reflections and broader rim lightening. Fresh forest berry compote on the nose, delicate spices and orange zest. Subtle cedar tone, tobacco. Soft and elegant on the palate, has good freshness, red berry nuances, cherries and some cassis resonate, balanced medium texture, nougat, fresh acidity, remains quite well attached, a medium-weight Lafite that benefits greatly from the bottle format, overall clearly in decline. ! Tasted in imperial during Vinexpo 2001. Dark red color. Medium to good intensity. Evolved. Nose. Clean. Medium intensity. Fine. Subtle. Yes, there is a great terroir! Note of blackberry but also almost of dust. Unexpectedly, the palate is rather succulent, with a surprising suave note up to the mid-palate. Afterwards, the wine shows itself thinner and a little drier in its tannin (a mark that some owners, present at my side, still attribute to youth, but I rather believe it has been like this from the beginning). Medium length, but once again, there is a certain taste. To drink.

Jancis Robinson May - 2018

It had been ages since I tasted a red bordeaux 1976; a Léoville Barton in 2015 was the most recent. Transparent garnet. Something very slightly mousey on the nose (I am very sensitive to mousiness). A sweet start and then a little dry and short of fruit. It still has some charm but lacked a bit of juice and freshness. The finish was very intriguing and nuanced, however. Definitely first-growth quality, but getting on a bit.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favoring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
