Château Cheval Blanc 2000 is a blend of two grape varieties: 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Franc. At the tasting, this classified growth presents an interesting nose. On the palate, a rich bouquet of spices completed by notes of tobacco, vanilla and roasted coconut. A great wine in perspective that can already be drunk or kept for several years in the cellar.

Jean-Marc Quarin
(6-2010) Tasted blind, and decanted. The bottle comes from the same case as the wine tasted in September 2007. And it was the same cork supplier! Dark red color, slight evolution. Discreet nose whose creamy character evokes Pomerol. Rounded entry on the palate and the wine develops extremely fruity, juicy in mid-palate, tender. Then it tightens on the finish without hardening and ends long, rich and complex. Superb! Upon discovering the bottle, it's a pleasure to find this 2000 at this level. Wait until 2015 and before 2035.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This closed, backward blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Franc boasts a saturated purple color along with a reticent but striking bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, truffles, and mocha. In spite of its tightness, aeration reveals scents of licorice, menthol, and saddle leather. Opulent and full-bodied, with low acidity, sweet tannin, and a 60-second finish, it is unquestionably as profound as the 1990 and 1982. I still believe the 2000 has the potential to be the most compelling Cheval Blanc since the mythical 1947 and 1949, but patience is required. It should merit a three digit score in 7-10 years, but it is closed at present.

Château Cheval Blanc

Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most iconic estates of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it holds a singular place in the history of the Bordeaux vineyard, both for the exceptional consistency of its quality and for the uniqueness of its terroir and grape varieties. Located at the natural border between Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, the estate benefits from a rare mosaic of soils in Bordeaux, combining gravel, clay and sand.

The vineyard of Château Cheval Blanc extends over approximately 39 hectares, divided into numerous distinct parcels, each vinified separately in order to preserve the expression of its terroir. The grape variety, dominated by Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, constitutes an exception in Saint-Émilion and gives the wines a slender structure, natural freshness and remarkable aging potential.

The estate's philosophy is based on extremely precise parcel viticulture, controlled yields and vinifications conducted with rigor and restraint. The aging process accompanies the wine without ever masking the purity of the fruit or the complexity of the terroir. The wines of Château Cheval Blanc are distinguished by their rare balance between intensity, finesse and aromatic depth.

Among the iconic vintages are notably Château Cheval Blanc 1947, Château Cheval Blanc 1949, Château Cheval Blanc 1955, Château Cheval Blanc 1982, Château Cheval Blanc 1990, Château Cheval Blanc 1998, Château Cheval Blanc 1989, Château Cheval Blanc 2000, Château Cheval Blanc 2005, Château Cheval Blanc 2010, regularly praised for their longevity and elegance.
