Falstaff December - 2016
Falstaff
Intense ruby garnet, ochre reflections, delicate orange rim. Needs a little air, gently notes of velvet, ripe cherries, candied orange zest, a hint of cedarwood and chocolate. On the palate elegant and juicy, silky tannins, fine extract sweetness, mineral on the finish, black berries, a hint of pickled black olives in the aftertaste — a versatile companion to food.

Medium ruby, brightened rim. The nose delicately fragrant, open but less opulent than the 85, floral notes alternating with plenty of cedarwood, behind that black tea, deep and with very good complexity. On the palate with a firm opening, elegant yet dense, there are fine, well-integrated but still pronounced tannins, very fine, juicy fruit, the acidity is spot on, altogether extremely elegant and with great class, clearly more linear and tighter than the 85 with less Rubens-like fullness, wiry but not lean — the classic Bordeaux style. On the finish with very good length, ending on crisp red fruits.

There is a strict, firm character here, that intrudes in the medium bodied, red cherry and plum notes. Better on the nose, with earthy, tobacco leaf, herb and red fruits, than on the austere palate. This is a nice wine

Jancis Robinson June - 2010

One of the finest 1986s I can remember. Pale/mid ruby. Very rich, sweet and subtle on the nose. So much more luscious than most 1986s. Round and supple. All that tannin has magically melted. Good bordeaux needs a very long time, children.

Château Cheval Blanc
Château Cheval Blanc

Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most iconic estates of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it holds a singular place in the history of the Bordeaux vineyard, both for the exceptional consistency of its quality and for the uniqueness of its terroir and grape varieties. Located at the natural border between Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, the estate benefits from a rare mosaic of soils in Bordeaux, combining gravel, clay and sand.

The vineyard of Château Cheval Blanc extends over approximately 39 hectares, divided into numerous distinct parcels, each vinified separately in order to preserve the expression of its terroir. The grape variety, dominated by Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, constitutes an exception in Saint-Émilion and gives the wines a slender structure, natural freshness and remarkable aging potential.

The estate's philosophy is based on extremely precise parcel viticulture, controlled yields and vinifications conducted with rigor and restraint. The aging process accompanies the wine without ever masking the purity of the fruit or the complexity of the terroir. The wines of Château Cheval Blanc are distinguished by their rare balance between intensity, finesse and aromatic depth.

Among the iconic vintages are notably Château Cheval Blanc 1947, Château Cheval Blanc 1949, Château Cheval Blanc 1955, Château Cheval Blanc 1982, Château Cheval Blanc 1990, Château Cheval Blanc 1998, Château Cheval Blanc 1989, Château Cheval Blanc 2000, Château Cheval Blanc 2005, Château Cheval Blanc 2010, regularly praised for their longevity and elegance.
