PAVILLON ROUGE du Château Margaux 1986

This summer, the weather conditions were excellent, but the month of September was rainy. Immediately afterwards, the sun returned until the harvest, bringing the grapes to superb maturity.
1986 is a very great vintage of Pavillon Rouge. Moreover, almost all the plots gave very good wine that year, thanks in particular to the exceptional climatic conditions. Pavillon Rouge 1986 from Château Margaux is more evolved than the first wine and has now reached its peak.

Red color. Average intensity. Evolved. 1st Nose Net. Average intensity. Fruity. Animal. Metallic key. Identical agitation. Animal. More fruity yet. Mouth Fresh on the palate, developing on a soft structure offering a very pleasant taste. The tannin is melted, presenting a typical final firmness of the vintage and a grilled note. Very nice wine but not complex.

Pavillon used to represent a third of the total production. All the plots that provided this wine now go into the third and fourth wine at Ch Margaux. 'We now produce 40 hl/ha rather than 60, because of pruning and global warming.' At the time it was considered a very tannic vintage. They double decanted a large format a day in advance . Blackish ruby, pale rusty rim. Sweet and round and perfumed and classic Margaux nose but far from intense. Marked acidity. Relatively light bodied. Fruit far from intense. Fresh and clean on the end. Light and pretty.

Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the largest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux appears in the first classified growths of the official classification of Médoc wines of 1855.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does it great honor.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently brought together by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet-Franc and Petit-Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from the soil. clayey-gravelly, particularly dense and thick.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among the Bordeaux wines, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity on tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance of rose, violet, black fruits, under -taut by tight tannins that require patient aging before blossoming. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

Best vintages of Château Margaux are : 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
