CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1966

The beginning of the year was rainy, but September in particular was exceptionally hot, which allowed the grapes to reach a very good maturity.
Château Margaux 19626 is rich, with a very fine tannic texture which has now evolved with great finesse and softness on the palate. Its finish is slightly marked by tannins. It is an excellent wine and remains one of the three best vintages of its decade.

It was interesting to see how well the bouquet developed--about 45 minutes to reach perfection. Both were in good condition with fine flavour, texture and length. Time in hand.

(3-2013) Dry and fresh. Racy and transparent. Long and reverberant. Not from Margaux's most glorious era but a very good bottle.

Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the largest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux appears in the first classified growths of the official classification of Médoc wines of 1855.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does it great honor.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently brought together by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet-Franc and Petit-Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from the soil. clayey-gravelly, particularly dense and thick.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among the Bordeaux wines, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity on tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance of rose, violet, black fruits, under -taut by tight tannins that require patient aging before blossoming. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

Best vintages of Château Margaux are : 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
