If multiple bottles are in stock, the photo is non-contractual and illustrates the condition of the bottle.

From dry and hot in spring, the weather will continually cool down, until it becomes cold and rainy at harvest. 100 mm of water fall in the second half of September and an episode of hail causes significant damage. This is followed by an explosion of Botrytis, which 2 weeks without rain allow to concentrate, then to harvest at the beginning of October. A vintage marked by an abundance of rot, the success of which stems from the experience of the cellarmen.

Jancis Robinson June - 2013

From the best wartime vintage and in even better nick than the La Mission 1943 I'd been lucky enough to taste a few days before (Yquem really is indestructible). Dark ruby colour that offered few hints as to whether this was originally a red or a white wine (as so often with really mature bordeaux).Perfumed, rich, dense yet as finely etched as a jewel. Quite exceptional. So heady and yet with beautifully balanced freshness – even at 70 years old!

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference among great sweet wines and holds a unique place in the viticultural history of Bordeaux. Located at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir and microclimate that promote the development of botrytis cinerea. In the official 1855 classification, Château d'Yquem was awarded an unparalleled status by being designated Premier Cru Supérieur, a distinction unique among the classified grand crus.

The identity of Château d'Yquem rests on an extreme level of rigor at every stage of production: very low yields, successive harvest passes (tries), and strict selection of grapes. Long held by the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the technical independence and historical standards of the château.

In the greatest years, Château d'Yquem produces vintages that have become iconic, such as the 1908 wine through the 1921 vintage, considered its pinnacle, passing through 1928 and 1929, which close out a remarkable decade, then the 1937 wine and the 1963 vintage, illustrating an exceptional aging capacity that can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
