The Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 was created at the request of Napoleon III. It dinstinguishes the red wines classification (all from the Medoc except Haut Brion from Pessac Léognan), andsweet white wines classification.The classification of sweet white wines, all of which are Sauternes and Barsac, is divided into 3 categories: first superior growth, first growth and second growth.
Château d‘Yquem is the only one to hold the ultimate title of first superior growth.
