Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1986 Lynch Bages has a knockout bouquet that wraps its arms around you with all its loveliness: pure black cherries, mint and cedar, even a touch of glycerine still there. Vibrant and youthful. The palate is beautifully balanced, crisp and taut, linear but very precise with a fine bead of acidity. You just fall for the harmony of this Lynch Bages, the intensity of fruit that seems undiminished on the finish. Is it up there with the 1989 and 1990? Maybe not, but it is not far behind. Frankly this Lynch Bages is a 1986 Claret that you cannot own too much of and as I commented to Jean-Michel Cazes tasting alongside me, at 30 years of age it still has more to give. Tasted July 2016.

Dense ruby, still beautiful shine. Initially restrained, needs time to open, then shows tobacco, herbs also tea, very profound, stony, with dark fruit, cherries, blackcurrants. Dense palate, still very youthful, almost somewhat impetuous, this has power and strength, shows on one hand still youthfulness but also already aromatic mature tones, which do not quite fit into the overall picture. Ends pleasantly long and with beautiful, dark fruity retro-aromatics. A wine between two lives? I have had this 1986 significantly better in the glass, not an optimal bottle?

Jeannie Cho Lee January - 2016

Three bottles of this vintage was consumed over dinner and there was some bottle variation. The best example had all the wonderful cedar, leather and dried herb notes with chewy tannins that can be so attractive in aged Bordeaux. Other bottles were less exciting, a bit dull, with the tannins dominating the complex, aged flavors. A vintage with tannins that are quite chewy and elevated. At its peak.

Dark color, medium intensity and evolved. Discreet and simple nose. Round, juicy, flavorful palate, still slightly tannic despite a hint of velvetiness. Good length with a lovely return of aromas, which I consider to be the hallmark of a great terroir.

Falstaff February - 2011
Falstaff
Dark carmine garnet, delicate ochre rim, watery edge. On the nose fine chocolatey nuances, restrained bouquet, opens very slowly, ripe plums, blackberries. Juicy, sweet confit, present tannins, seems somewhat liqueur-like and clumsy, the sweetness dominates on the finish, does not show real elegance, somewhat dry tannins

This brawny, beefy, masculine style of Pauillac is the epitome of what many people call classic. Still young and tannic, with luck, time will help this wine. While it may soften and gain complexity, it will always remain stern.

Packed with flavour, its vigour adn fruit taking one's mind off the tannins...Impressively deep though a misleadingly mature rim; fleshy, ripe, leathery, cedar and 'cheese rind' bouquet -- quite exciting; nice fruit but a lean touch. An agreeable drink despite its teeth-gripping finish.

Transparent blackish ruby. Very Cabernet and minerally and perhaps just starting to dry out but not remotely seriously. Absolutely classic Pauillac with admirable persistence.

Château Lynch Bages
Château Lynch Bages

Château Lynch-Bages is one of the great names of the Pauillac appellation, classified as a Fifth Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Located on the historic plateau of Bages, in the heart of the Médoc, this wine has embodied for several generations the controlled power and qualitative consistency that make the reputation of great Bordeaux wines.

The history of Château Lynch-Bages begins in the 18th century with the Lynch family, of Irish origin, before the property was acquired in the 20th century by the Cazes family. Since the acquisition by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1939, then under the impetus of Jean-Michel Cazes and today Jean-Charles Cazes, the estate has continuously strengthened its identity and international reputation. This family continuity is a central element of Château Lynch-Bages' uniqueness.

The vineyard sits on deep Garonne gravel, ideally drained, an emblematic terroir of Pauillac, particularly favorable to Cabernet Sauvignon, the predominant grape variety in the blend. It gives birth to structured, refined wines built for aging, combining aromatic intensity, tannic precision and finesse.

Vintages such as Château Lynch-Bages 1982, Château Lynch-Bages 1995, Château Lynch-Bages 2000, Château Lynch-Bages 1989, Château Lynch-Bages 2009 or Château Lynch-Bages 2010 illustrate the remarkable consistency of the estate and its essential status among the collectible wines of Pauillac.
