Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1986 Lynch Bages has a knockout bouquet that wraps its arms around you with all its loveliness: pure black cherries, mint and cedar, even a touch of glycerine still there. Vibrant and youthful. The palate is beautifully balanced, crisp and taut, linear but very precise with a fine bead of acidity. You just fall for the harmony of this Lynch Bages, the intensity of fruit that seems undiminished on the finish. Is it up there with the 1989 and 1990? Maybe not, but it is not far behind. Frankly this Lynch Bages is a 1986 Claret that you cannot own too much of and as I commented to Jean-Michel Cazes tasting alongside me, at 30 years of age it still has more to give. Tasted July 2016.

Dense ruby, still a beautiful shine. Initially reserved, needs time to open up, then shows tobacco, herbs and tea, very deep, stony, with dark fruit, cherries, blackcurrants. Dense palate, still very youthful, almost a little impetuous, it has power and strength, still shows youthfulness on the one hand but also aromatic mature tones that don't quite fit into the overall picture. Ends pleasantly long and with a beautiful, dark fruity retro aroma. A wine between two lives? I've had this 1986 vintage in the glass before, not an optimal bottle?

Three bottles of this vintage was consumed over dinner and there was some bottle variation. The best example had all the wonderful cedar, leather and dried herb notes with chewy tannins that can be so attractive in aged Bordeaux. Other bottles were less exciting, a bit dull, with the tannins dominating the complex, aged flavors. A vintage with tannins that are quite chewy and elevated. At its peak.

Dark color, medium intensity and mature. Discreet and simple nose. Round, juicy, tasty on the palate, still a hint of tannin despite an onset of velvety. Good length with a nice return of aromas, which I consider to be the mark of a great terroir.

Falstaff February - 2011
Falstaff
Dark carmine garnet, delicate ochre edge, water edge. Fine chocolate nuances on the nose, restrained bouquet, opens very slowly, ripe plums, blackberries. Juicy, sweet confit, present tannins, seems a bit liqueur-like and clumsy, the sweetness dominates the finish, is not really elegant, slightly dry tannins

This brawny, beefy, masculine style of Pauillac is the epitome of what many people call classic. Still young and tannic, with luck, time will help this wine. While it may soften and gain complexity, it will always remain stern.

Packed with flavour, its vigour adn fruit taking one's mind off the tannins...Impressively deep though a misleadingly mature rim; fleshy, ripe, leathery, cedar and 'cheese rind' bouquet -- quite exciting; nice fruit but a lean touch. An agreeable drink despite its teeth-gripping finish.

Transparent blackish ruby. Very Cabernet and minerally and perhaps just starting to dry out but not remotely seriously. Absolutely classic Pauillac with admirable persistence.

Château Lynch Bages
Château Lynch Bages

Château Lynch-Bages produces fifth classified growths of Médoc in the 1855 classification and a second wine called Echo de Lynch-Bages which is not classified. Under the Pauillac appellation, the Château Lynch-Bages vineyard covers more than 1,200 hectares.

The wine of Chateau Lynch-Bages is in line with the great Pauillac. Composed mostly of Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines structure and finesse, elegance and longevity. It is also distinguished by its wealth. Generous in his youth, he played in his maturity to more flavor and complexity. The style of wine Chateau Lynch-Bages refined over the years, gaining flexibility and softness, while regular wine settles in time.

Until today, Chateau Lynch-Bages is characterized by its extraordinary standard of quality. Powerful, sleek and open, the wine vintage after vintage acquires greater accuracy, combining the distinction in nature, which bases its hedonistic personality.
