Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Yes, yes, and YES! Did I say yes enough? If you want to know why some tasters or just me go crazy for these wines, this is the right bottle to taste. It only takes 1 sniff to know how sublime the wine is, with its layers of flowers, exotic spices, smoke, dark red fruits, gravel, and hints of white peach. If the perfume didn't hook you, the show-stopping, endless layers of opulently-textured, sweet, vibrant, perfectly-ripe, racy fruits that coat your palate will do the trick. It's a mystery how they manage to produce a wine with this much concentration that's balanced with vibrancy, but they do. The exotic, seamless finish holds on for over 60 seconds.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The most developed, evolved and forward of the three La-La’s in this vintage is the dense purple-colored 1999 Cote Rotie La Mouline. An extraordinary effort, it offers a smorgasbord of aromas and flavors. Scents of violets, raspberries, blackberries, roasted espresso, balsamic vinegar, and pepper tumble out of the glass. It is unctuously-textured, full-bodied, and fabulously concentrated with a tremendous purity and seamlessness that must be tasted to be believed. A wine of singular greatness, it can be drunk young, but should be at its finest between 2005-2020. What is so remarkable about this cuvee is its tremendous layers of flavor, awesome texture, and perfect balance. This is an astonishing offering from one of the world’s greatest winemakers.

A sensational wine. Great opulence in this full-textured, rich and ripe red. Layered with mocha, tobacco, blackberries. Supple tannins caress the palate. Long and sweet finish. All the more complex for the mineral note and smoky, toasted aromas.

Jeannie Cho Lee March - 2016

This wine is very oaky and the fruit is overpowered by the tannins - dark savory spices and black fruits lurk in the background. I don't think this wine will become better with longer bottle age - it is just a style that is dominated by oak and tannins.

Dark crimson with some age at the rim. Intense nose of warm leather. The merest hint of brett. Vibrating with fruit and with the patina of age. I wouldn't keep it that much longer.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, this family estate has built its reputation on a demanding interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the estate embodies a heritage vision of great wine, recognized internationally.

Historically established in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and ages in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. This same site also ensures the aging of emblematic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, guaranteeing perfect control of aging and a coherent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the Rhône's most emblematic cuvées, Domaine E. Guigal is distinguished by wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Vintages that have become references, such as Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque 1985, Guigal La Landonne 1990, Guigal La Landonne 1989, Guigal Hermitage Ex-Voto 2003, Guigal La Mouline 1999, Guigal La Landonne 1989, Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2010, Guigal La Mouline 2018 testify to the estate's consistent quality and exceptional aging potential.
