Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A rather strange nose at first, a little musty but freshens up with aeration with red-berried fruits, hedgerow, cigar box and a touch of tomatoe! The palate is impressive with succulent black fruits, spice, leather and raisin. Very harmonious and focused, a testament to the longevity of this estate. There remains a core of ripe wild strawberry and raspberry with a tantalizing prickle on the finish. Very crisp and with superb definition, this is a great Cos d’Estournel.

Château Cos D'Estournel
Château Cos D'Estournel

Château Cos d'Estournel is one of the most iconic estates of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it owes its singular identity to its location on the Cos hillside and to the bold vision of its founder, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, a prominent figure of the 19th century nicknamed the "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe".

From its beginnings, Cos d'Estournel established itself through an international ambition rare for the time, exporting its wines as far as Asia. This openness to the world is still reflected today in the unique architecture of the château, inspired by the Far East, a true visual signature in the Médoc. The vineyard rests on terroir of deep gravel mixed with clay, benefiting from the proximity of the Gironde estuary, giving the wines structure, depth and complexity.
