Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1953, most recently drunk from magnums in 1994, 1993, and 1989, is a classic example of the vintage, displaying a huge, fragrant, flowery, berry-scented nose. From a regular bottle I suspect this wine could be on the downside, but from pristinely kept magnums, this fully mature wine is a terrific example of the vintage, and certainly one of the greatest wines of the century.

At best. Many notes, th most recent beign superb: surprisingly deep for a 1953; glorious, fragrant bouquet. Claret at its very best, delectable flavour, weight and balance.

Château Cos D'Estournel
Château Cos D'Estournel

Château Cos d'Estournel is one of the most iconic estates of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it owes its singular identity to its location on the Cos hillside and to the bold vision of its founder, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, a prominent figure of the 19th century nicknamed the "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe".

From its beginnings, Cos d'Estournel established itself through an international ambition rare for the time, exporting its wines as far as Asia. This openness to the world is still reflected today in the unique architecture of the château, inspired by the Far East, a true visual signature in the Médoc. The vineyard rests on terroir of deep gravel mixed with clay, benefiting from the proximity of the Gironde estuary, giving the wines structure, depth and complexity.
