PHILIPPONNAT Cuvée "1522" Extra Brut 2007

Anecdote about this cuvée: The name of the cuvée 1522 pays homage to the year when the Philipponnat family took root in the village of Ay, in the heart of Champagne. As far back as the House's archives go, there are traces of the family's ancestors, the first of whom, Apvril le Philipponnat, owned vineyards in Le Léon, between Ay and Dizy, as early as 1522.

This shows lovely balance and integration, with the fine, lacy mousse carrying savory notes of sliced almond and fleur de sel, layered with baked apple, lemon curd and honeycomb accents. Fresh and focused on the chalky finish.

Creamy, candied apple fruits with bakery aromas, cream and a hoppy finish. Full of flavour and persistence, and finishes with a sour twang.

Philipponnat

Founded in Aÿ as early as 1522 and established in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the house of Philipponnat produces vinous and precise Champagnes, dominated by Pinot Noir, from the Champagne appellation and Grand Cru classified terroirs. Its monopole Clos des Goisses, the first enclosed vineyard vinified separately in the region, encapsulates its spirit: terroir, structure and long ageing potential.

True to its perpetual reserve and measured dosage, the house crafts gastronomic cuvées that stand the test of time. Among its greatest years, 1996, the 2002 vintage, the 2008 wine, 2015 and the 2020 wine illustrate the balance between vinosity and freshness.
