Christie's department must have secreted quite a stock for I have several notes, starting with a splendidly rich and creamy magnum at our christmas dinener in 1996. Two more later. Slight bottle variation. Both showing their age, one deliciously ripe and lovely, the second seemed drier and firmer.

Chardonnay, a floral and feminine grape variety that stands for elegance and finesse, is the distinctive signature of Perrier-Jouët vineyards, with a strong presence of aged vines (average age of 23 years). The delicacy and elegance of this grape variety reveal truly exceptional finesse, fruitiness and bouquet. The Perrier-Jouët vineyards extend over a homogeneous terroir with nearly 40 hectares of Chardonnay, located in the Grand Crus of Cramant and Avize. Surface area: 40 hectares, Average age of vineyard: 23 years
