In Bordeaux it is now established that it is on the hillsides of Pavie and Ausone that the vine was implanted for the first time in Saint Emilion in IV century. But it was not until the 19th century that the true wine vocation of Pavie really took sense. At that time, the Château is divided among several families of owners, including Talleman and Pigasse. In 1954, during the official classification of the wines of Saint Emilion, the Château Pavie reaches the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B. The arrival of Gérard Perse in Pavie in 1998, will be at the origin of a tremendous leap forward , today endorsed by the unanimity of the world of wine. In 2012, Château Pavie wins the top ranking among the Premiers Grands Crus classés A

(05-2013) Black, very aromatic. Undergrowth, autumn, truffle, very ripe black fruits. The mouth is fatty, thick, rich, concentrated. Very good length. A really great wine.
(08-2000) Ripe and fresh. Just what it should be. Deep ruby with red hue. Loads of chocolate, vanilla, tobacco and ripe fruit. Full bodied with lots of velvety tannins and a long finish.
(06-2010) Tasted at the Fine Wine Experience’s Pavie vertical. Perhaps the last great Pavie before Gerard Perse bought the estate in 1997. The 1990 Pavie sports a deep core with deep tawny rim and sports a very “classic” Pavie bouquet that is muted at first, but unfurls gracefully with intense cedar aromas deriving from the Cabernet Sauvignon. Underneath there are aromas of crushed stone and a touch of cold black tea. It does not have the vim and vigour of the 1989. The palate is medium-bodied and whilst it is not as vigorous as a couple of years ago, it retains a supple texture, impressive harmony and a lovely wild strawberry, fig, leather and brine tinged finish. Fresh and vital, this is holding up well. Tasted June 2010.
