Black, very aromatic. Undergrowth, autumn, truffle, very ripe black fruit. The palate is rich, thick, concentrated. Very beautiful length. A true great wine.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Looking a little older than its true, due to the lightness of color, the nose served up its delicate blend of forest floor, sweet, red plum and cherry and tobacco notes with little to no effort. Softly textured on the palate, with an earthy, fresh, bright red berry finish.

Ripe and fresh. Just what it should be. Deep ruby with red hue. Loads of chocolate, vanilla, tobacco and ripe fruit. Full bodied with lots of velvety tannins and a long finish.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Fine Wine Experience’s Pavie vertical. Perhaps the last great Pavie before Gerard Perse bought the estate in 1997. The 1990 Pavie sports a deep core with deep tawny rim and sports a very “classic” Pavie bouquet that is muted at first, but unfurls gracefully with intense cedar aromas deriving from the Cabernet Sauvignon. Underneath there are aromas of crushed stone and a touch of cold black tea. It does not have the vim and vigour of the 1989. The palate is medium-bodied and whilst it is not as vigorous as a couple of years ago, it retains a supple texture, impressive harmony and a lovely wild strawberry, fig, leather and brine tinged finish. Fresh and vital, this is holding up well. Tasted June 2010.

Firm, meaty, savoury nose.  Traditional style with less opulence than most 1990s. Dry finish but impressively long and with some richness.

Château Pavie
Château Pavie

In Bordeaux, it is now established that it was on the slopes of Pavie and Ausone that the vine was first planted in the Saint Emilion region in the 4th century. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that Pavie's true wine-growing vocation truly took shape. At that time, the estate was divided among several families of owners, including the Tallemans and the Pigasses. In 1954, during the official classification of Saint Emilion wines, Château Pavie achieved the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B. The arrival of Gérard Perse at Pavie in 1998 would mark the beginning of a tremendous leap forward, now endorsed unanimously by the wine world. In 2012, Château Pavie obtained the top of the classification among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés A.
