The nose is elegant and offers richness, a certain concentration, a very fine powdery side and depth. There are notes of crushed cherry, crushed raspberry and more lightly lily combined with a touch of balsamic, licorice, cola, as well as notes of soft blond tobacco, strawberry, racy minerality / iodized gravel, along with a discreet hint of salinity, nutmeg and vanilla. The palate is fresh, mineral, balanced and offers a beautiful mineral backbone, acidity, harmony, roundness, a beautiful grain, delicacy as well as beautiful work on the bitters. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh/juicy blackberry, crisp raspberry and slightly juicy/fleshy cherry combined with notes of fresh/chunky blackcurrant, notes of licorice, cola as well as fine notes of clove, cardamom, vanilla and a subtle note of cardamom. Notes of crushed hazelnut on the finish.

Produced in the magnificent new cellars at Montrose, this big, tannic wine is powerful and concentrated. It has something of the classic severity of a wine from this estate, but that's mitigated by the ripe, generous blackberry fruitiness and the final freshness of a 2012. A great success, to drink from 2022.

Château Montrose

Château Montrose is one of the most iconic estates in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it embodies the power, longevity and stylistic rigor characteristic of the great wines of the northern Médoc. Located at the southern tip of Saint-Estèphe, immediately bordering the Gironde, the estate benefits from an exceptionally homogeneous terroir, often compared to that of its greatest neighboring classified growths in Pauillac.

The Château Montrose vineyard extends over approximately 95 hectares in a single block, planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. This composition gives the wines a deep structure, a marked aromatic intensity and a remarkable aging potential. The Montrose style is distinguished by its balance between controlled power, freshness and tannin precision.

Aged for approximately eighteen months in French oak barrels, this grand vin requires many years of cellaring. The estate counts among its legends 1921, 1929, the 1982 vintage and 1990, while the 2009 wine and the 2010 vintage proudly represent its recent period. La Dame de Montrose, the second selection born in 1983, offers a more approachable reading of the same terroir. The estate also produces a renowned second wine, La Dame de Montrose, crafted to the same exacting standards and offering a more accessible expression of the terroir.
