Wonderful clean berry fruit with currant, light mint and mineral following through to a full, firm palate with long, silky tannins and a mineral, berry and spice aftertaste. Lovely wine. Firm. This is squeaky clean and beautiful. Enjoyable now but better to wait a few years still.--Non-blind Château Montrose vertical. Best after 2007.

Delighted that this bottle was absolutely perfect. Could be in the dictionary for the left bank. Plenty of fruit dark backbone still there so this was by no means all tertiary flavours.

Dark red color. Intense. Lively. Slight evolution. Bright. Nose of medium intensity. Fruity. Smooth. Soft and energetic entry, developing on a very, very fruity structure, firm but airy, which delivers juicy and smooth tannins with a taste of gingerbread. Great finish presenting a slightly austere and just ripe tannin. This limit in maturity evokes the winemaking style of yesteryear.

Very beautiful color, ruby red, brilliant. The nose is still a little closed (it is advisable to open the bottle 4 hours in advance) but very pleasant, red fruit, blackcurrant. The palate is perfectly balanced. The tannins are fine, still present but well integrated. Richness, acidity, very beautiful length. This wine provides immense pleasure today but is also made to last.

Falstaff February - 2011

Strong carmine garnet, broad ochre rim, orange reflections. On the nose, fine herbal spice, inviting dark berry fruit, a hint of truffle and nougat, fine, rather delicate bouquet. Medium body, fine cherry fruit, red berry finish, well-integrated tannins, an excellent food wine, medium length, spot on.

Brick tinged, ruby color with some browning at the edge of the rim. Herbs, tobacco, licorice, cassis and earthy notes in the nose. Masculine and brutish in style. Probably close to full maturity. This is for lovers of austere claret stylings.

Strong Bordeaux red, still looks youthful. Clearly matured on the nose, sparse, green pepper, cardboard, behind it fish fried in shallots, metallic, this seems depleted, unharmonious on the nose. On the palate very sparse, drying, blood, leather, little fruit, classically Bordeaux but not great, ends medium-long.

Jancis Robinson September - 2005

Dark crimson – much deeper than the 1985. Correct, dense, slightly austere at present. Very fragrant and correct but still much marked by extremely fine tannins on the palate. Very dry finish. Much better with food – well, surprisingly good with a light shellfish cream – pretty awkward with a foie gras crème brûlée.

Château Montrose

Château Montrose is one of the most iconic estates in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it embodies the power, longevity and stylistic rigor characteristic of the great wines of northern Médoc. Located at the southern tip of Saint-Estèphe, directly bordering the Gironde estuary, the estate benefits from a terroir of rare homogeneity, often compared to that of the greatest classified growths neighboring Pauillac.

The Château Montrose vineyard extends over approximately 95 hectares in a single block, predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. This configuration gives the wines a deep structure, marked aromatic intensity and remarkable aging potential. The Montrose style is distinguished by its balance between controlled power, freshness and tannic precision.

Among the most remarkable vintages are Château Montrose 1921, Château Montrose 1989, Château Montrose 1990, Château Montrose 1996, Château Montrose 2000, Château Montrose 2009, Château Montrose 2010, Château Montrose 2015, regularly acclaimed for their concentration and aging potential. The estate also produces a renowned second wine, La Dame de Montrose, crafted with the same quality standards and offering a more accessible expression of the terroir.
