At 33-years old, in a more or less perfect place for me, pouring with still a healthy ruby at the core and the nose absolutely à pointe with some herbal Cabernet character, but loads of precise graphite and black fruit and a waft of rose-like perfume somewhere in the background. In the mouth still rich and substantial: a wine that has shrugged off its three decades, still a hint of muscularity and taut athleticism, but there is a softening touch to the fruit, a little Muscavado sugar caramel, but lovely, lovely resolution of the tannins and acids into a harmonious and quite long finish. Could it be a tad more complex? Maybe, but I'm very happy to have one more bottle left in the cellarfor drinking over the next few years.

Slightly cloudy and evolved color. The nose surprises with its intensity. Fruity nuances. Touch of cedar. It's a bouquet. Delicate on the entry, medium-bodied in the middle, but very melted and smooth, the wine finishes rather difficult to spit out, with good sappy length. In this very successful vintage in Margaux, this cru does very well.

Information on the vintage 1985 red Bordeaux: 5/5 This vintage seems to encapsulate all that is good about Bordeaux : its weight, its balance, its character. It is certainly my favourite vintage of this splendid decade typifying claret at its best. I am more than ever convinced that this is one of the most perfect vintages, both for drinking now and keeping.

Château D'Issan
Château d'Issan, Margaux, 3rd Classified Growth classified as 3rd Growth in 1855. Château d'Issan is a magnificent property located on the banks of the Gironde, it is said that the wine of Issan was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet in 1152. The grape variety composition of Château d'Issan is classic, with about three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a naturally fine Margaux, which can be rich and round when the vintage allows. In recent years, the vintages vinified by Emmanuel Cruse have proven to be even denser and more complex.
