Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Still backward, but beginning to throw considerable sediment and reveal some amber at the edge, this wine reveals a distinctive, violet, cassis, bacon fat aroma intermixed with smoked duck and Asian spice components. Extremely full-bodied and sturdy, with noticeable tannin, this husky, powerful, concentrated La Mouline is less seductive than many vintages. In fact, in 1983, it behaves more like La Landonne. It can be drunk, but ideally it requires another 4-5 years of cellaring. Many 1983s have proven less exciting than initial predictions because of the refusal of the harsh tannins to melt away, but the tannin is clearly falling away in the 1983 La Mouline. There is still a wealth of fruit remaining.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
One of the wines of the year for me. Off the hook and charts in every way. The nose, with its exotic blend of campfire smoke, bacon, flowers, cherries and black raspberries was so good, I could have kept sniffing that all night long. But then I would have missed the sexy, sensuous, lush, opulent, no, make that decadent textures. The finish clocked in at an easy 60 seconds. This is one of those wines that really sticks with you.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, this family estate built its reputation on a demanding interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the domaine embodies a heritage-driven vision of fine wine, recognized on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and ages in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, among which Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The same site also oversees the aging of iconic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, ensuring perfect mastery of the aging process and a coherent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal distinguishes itself with wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Dominant Syrah, a touch of Viognier on the Côte Blonde, patient aging: the style combines depth and freshness and rewards those who wait. The estate's great vintages range from the 1988 wine to the 1999 vintage, including the Ex-Voto from 2003, through to the more recent 2016, 2017 wine and 2018.
