Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1998 Cote Rotie La Landonne is a perfect wine ... at least for my palate. Its saturated blackpurple color is accompanied by an extraordinary nose of smoke, incense, tapenade, creosote, blackberry, and currant aromas. It is densely packed with blackberry, truffle, chocolate, and leather-like flavors. The wine possesses high tannin, but perfect harmony, impeccable balance, and gorgeous integration of acidity, alcohol, and tannin. It is a tour de force in winemaking.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Youthful, but approachable, the spicy, smoky, earthy, wild cherry and red plum, with hints of blackberry nose is there with a bit of effort. Full-bodied, fresh, concentrated, smoky and powerful, there is a solid tannic structure, but the tannins are as ripe as the fruit.

Fantastic. This full-bodied, pitch-black wine caresses the palate with a thick and opulent texture, ultrasoft tannins and rich fruit, then explodes with fresh, vibrant intensity, leaving a long trail of memories on the smoke, cassis, black currant, mineral aftertaste.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, this family estate built its reputation on a demanding interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the domaine embodies a heritage-driven vision of fine wine, recognized on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and ages in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, among which Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The same site also oversees the aging of iconic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, ensuring perfect mastery of the aging process and a coherent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal distinguishes itself with wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Dominant Syrah, a touch of Viognier on the Côte Blonde, patient aging: the style combines depth and freshness and rewards those who wait. The estate's great vintages range from the 1988 wine to the 1999 vintage, including the Ex-Voto from 2003, through to the more recent 2016, 2017 wine and 2018.
