 Dark crimson with a little age at the rim. Powerfully scented and spicy – a wine that craves attention. Sweet start, sweet throughout so that it is not one of the subtlest but it should deliver lots of pleasure. Just a little chewy on the end even though the fruit has evolved quite a bit. Very Gruaud.

Light, with rustic tannins and hint of tartness in the berries, the nose, with its tobacco, earth, cassis and barnyard aromatics is fine. But the fruit is losing the race with the tannins on the palate and in the finish. Time will probably not improve this wine. At 19 years of age, it is, what it is.

Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose is one of the major historic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, classified Second Growth in the 1855 classification. Founded in the 18th century, the château quickly established itself as a Médoc reference, driven by an ambitious quality vision and a reputation that extended far beyond the borders of Bordeaux.

Established on deep gravel terroirs resting on clay-limestone subsoils, the vineyard benefits from an ideal environment for the expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape in the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This combination gives Gruaud Larose wines a pronounced structure, marked aromatic depth and remarkable aging capacity.

The château is also distinguished by its philosophy summarized in the estate's historic motto: "The King of Wines, the Wine of Kings." For several decades, significant investments have been made in both vineyard and cellar, with particular attention paid to sustainability, biodiversity and precision vinification.
