Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted with Denis Dubourdieu at the chateau. The 1996 demonstrates a little more intensity on the nose than the '97 with supreme definition and mineralite, the 10% Sauvignon Blanc adding sharpness. The palate is very well balanced with vibrant honeycomb, white peach and apricot. Such a vivacious 1996, it has a tension and poise that really is quite entrancing. Barely seeming to have aged over 15-years, this is a Barsac that will repay long-term cellaring.

Yellow-green color. Nose of medium intensity. Fruity. Fresh and candied. Very intense and complex when swirled. Ample and very, very fruity attack developing on a fine, melting mouthfeel and a taste of candied fruit accompanied by a fresh note of lemon. Beautiful concentration in the mid-palate which becomes melting in the finish and long. Very sapid, fine and not invasive. Very gastronomic.

100% Semillon, Doisy-Daëne also make a terrific dry white, but this is their sweet Barsac. Lovely, gentle botrytis nose. Lots of ripe, honeyed fruit with little toffee and marmalade notes and hints of leaf-tea and marzipan. Delightful palate which has medium richness and plenty of ripe, luscious nectarine and figgy fruit with lovely acid structure and length. Delightful stuff for drinking now and over five years or so.

Lightish greenish deep yellow. Sweet almondy nose. Very full and complete and confident palate. Very impressive though with quite a bit of tang from the vintage. Far from the sweetest.
